Praying for the Nations: Celebrating Faith, Heritage, and Community

During Heritage Week this September, our school community came together to celebrate something very special: the cultures, traditions, and countries that make our families who they are. It was a beautiful week filled with opportunities for our children to share their heritage, learn about the backgrounds of their friends, and celebrate the diversity that makes our community so unique.

One of the most meaningful moments of the week was Praying for the Nations, a special time when our families gathered together to pray for the countries and nations represented within our community. As a Christ-centered school, we believe that prayer is one of the greatest ways we can turn to Jesus for guidance, mercy, peace, and protection. Together, we lifted up our countries in prayer and trusted them into God’s hands.

But Heritage Week was about more than prayer. It was also about sharing our stories. In classrooms throughout the school, children and families had the opportunity to bring a little piece of their culture to share with their friends. Traditional foods, cultural projects, family stories, and special traditions became opportunities for children to proudly talk about where they come from and learn about the people around them.

There was something especially sweet about watching our little ones share these pieces of their families. Their excitement, curiosity, and pride reminded us that culture begins with the people we love and the stories we pass down. For our students, these classroom moments became more than an activity; they became memories they will carry with them.

For our families, Heritage Week was also a chance to slow down and enjoy time together. A shared meal, a conversation about family traditions, a child’s proud presentation, or a moment of prayer can become a treasured memory. These simple experiences help children understand that their family story matters and that there is something beautiful to discover in every culture.

At Granada Day School, we are grateful to have a community made up of so many different backgrounds and traditions, while being united by our faith in Jesus. Praying for the Nations reminded us that although we may come from different places, we can come together in faith, pray for one another, and celebrate the beautiful diversity God has placed within our community.

Heritage Week left us feeling happy, grateful, proud, and connected and most of all, reminded us that when faith, family, and community come together, we create memories that truly matter.

We celebrate where we come from, we celebrate one another, and we pray for the nations.
